   Haibane Renmei
One of my favorite anime. Not because it's particularly adventurous or action oriented. It's actually a bit slow-paced, but the message is fairly deep, and the characters are interesting and fun.

I first saw this anime series late in 2005 and knew it was something I wanted to own for myself. I rented it again a little over a week ago. I needed to see something comforting and not crapish.

I rent so many series of anime that it's inevitable a sizable chunk of it is total CRAP. Sometimes the show has too much blood. Sometimes I can't see the show for the breasts. Sometimes the plot or characters are so depraved that I feel faintly sick (these I eject immediately and cancel the remaining discs from my queue). And sometimes the show is so stupid that it gives me vivid flashbacks of Teletubbies! (The most sickening of the baby shows!) But I keep renting and trying out new anime 'cause every once and a while I find one that I really like; a gem among the bracken. Haibane Renmei is one of these.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy most of the anime I watch. It's just that sometimes my tolerance for idiocy dries up, and I have to see something worthwhile. So I take out my list of must-buy anime, and move a series I've already seen to the top of my rental "queue." Then, after I've watched it, I feel better, and move on to the next anime on the list. It may seem circuitous, but it works for me.

I recommend Haibane Renmei to anyone who's sick of senseless anime, and needs a reboot.

Until next time, this is frabjousarcher[) signing off!
